Tutorial: Abstract Light Art
1.
Open up a new document in Illustrator with a size of 800px by 600px. Select the Rectangle Tool from the tools palette draw a black background that is 800px by 600px. Name that layer black background.
2.
Next create a new layer above the black background layer and name it text. On that new layer using a thick font with round corners and a point size of 125px type your text. I typed “NO VACANY”. With a fill color of none and a stroke color of (Medium Green) #06600C. Give the text a stroke of 6 pt.
3.
Next copy the text and paste it in front of the previous copy. Give the text an outline color of (Bright Green) #00FF00 and a stroke of 3 pt.
4.
Now copy the text you just pasted and paste that one in front. Give the text an outline color of (Bright Yellow) # FFFF3E and a stroke of 1 pt. You should now have something similar to the picture.
5.
Now create a new layer in between the black background layer and the text layer. Name the new layer glow. Copy the top text (the yellow text) from the text layer. And paste the text in the glow layer, directly behind the top layer (CTRL+B)PC or (CMD+B)MAC. Give the text pasted in the glow layer a stroke of 6 pts. With the text still selected Go to EFFECT, BLUR, GAUSSIAN BLUR. In the GAUSSIAN BLUR menu give it a blur of 3 pixels. There you have your glowing neon text
